Tuhura is an interactive science exhibition aimed primarily at children completed and opened in late 2017. Visitors are invited to explore scientific concepts via hands-on interactives and experiences, rather than through didactic explanations. The aim is to encourage discrete learning of abstract concepts, rather focusing on factual retention. Fields covered include physics, geology, astronomy, light and sound, micro-biology, flora and fauna, and human perception. A māori world-view is represented visually in parallel by way of graphic ātua relevant to each concept .
